Privacy policy
Etta is an AI companion that phones your aging parent for a daily check-in and sends you a recap. That involves two people's trust — yours and your parent's — so this policy is written to be read: what we collect, why, who touches it, and how you erase it.
Two people, one promise
Etta handles data about you (the account holder with the app) and about your parent (the person Etta calls). Your parent's participation is built on their own spoken permission: on the very first call Etta introduces herself as an AI, explains who set the calls up, and asks directly whether daily calls are welcome. If they say no, we don't call. If they ever say "please stop calling" — to Etta herself, on any call — the calls stop immediately.
What we collect
- Your account. You sign in with your Apple account. We receive a unique account identifier and your email address (which may be Apple's private relay address if you choose to hide your email). A name is optional.
- Your parent's details. The name, phone number, and time zone you provide so Etta can call them, plus their consent status and its history. We call only the one number you've set up, only after consent, and we never use it for anything but the check-in calls.
- Call transcripts. Daily check-in calls are not audio-recorded — they're transcribed live so Etta can hold the conversation and write your recap, and the transcript is stored with your account. The one exception: the first consent call is recorded, because that recording is your parent's documented "yes" — we keep it as proof of permission.
- Recaps, trends, and alerts. The summaries generated after each call — including the lines quoted in your parent's own words — plus mood trends and the alerts you receive. All visible in the app.
- What Etta remembers. Small details from calls that help the next one feel familiar — bridge night, the garden, how they take their tea. Visible in the app.
- Your greeting clip. If you record a short greeting in your own voice, we store it to play at the start of calls. You can replace it any time.
- Subscription state. Your plan and usage (call minutes). Payments are processed entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details.
- Device and diagnostics. A device-integrity check (Apple's DeviceCheck) used only to protect the free introduction call from abuse, push notification tokens, and basic technical logs for reliability.
How we use it
- To run Etta: place the daily calls your parent has agreed to, hold the conversation, transcribe it, write your recap, track trends, and send the alerts you've asked for.
- To manage your subscription and enforce plan limits.
- To keep the service safe, prevent abuse of the free introduction call, and debug failures.
We do not sell your data or your parent's. We do not show ads. We do not track anyone across other companies' apps or websites.
AI processing — full disclosure
Etta's intelligence runs on third-party AI infrastructure providers acting as our data processors. Call transcripts are sent to these providers solely to generate Etta's side of the conversation and your recap. They process your family's content under contracts that prohibit using it for anything other than providing this service, including training their models. Calls are carried over the regular phone network by a telephony provider, which handles the phone number and call audio solely to connect the call. Every summary in the app is labeled as AI-generated.
Retention and deletion
- We keep your data while your account is active, so recaps, trends, and memories stay with you.
- Delete your account (You tab → Delete account) and everything goes with it — transcripts, recaps, trends, memories, your greeting clip, your parent's details and consent records — removed from our production systems immediately and purged from backups within 30 days.
- If your parent revokes consent, calling stops immediately; you can then delete their data from the app or by deleting your account.
- You can also email mitsi@uptrail.ai for deletion — including requests made on your parent's behalf — and we'll do it for you.
Who we share with
Only the processors needed to run the service: cloud hosting, the AI providers above, the telephony provider that connects the calls, and Apple (sign-in, payments, push notifications, device integrity). Each receives only the minimum required for their function. We never sell or rent personal data, and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose information if legally required to do so.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, stored with access controls in reputable cloud infrastructure, and accessible only to systems and people that need it to run the service.
Your rights — and your parent's
You can read everything Etta knows in the app, and delete all of it. Your parent can end the calls at any time by telling Etta to stop, and can email us to access or delete data about them. If you're in a region with formal privacy rights (such as the GDPR or US state privacy laws), you can exercise access, correction, deletion, and portability rights by emailing mitsi@uptrail.ai. We respond to all requests within 30 days.
Age
The Etta app is for adults: you must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to create an account. Etta is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18 — if we learn we have, we delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will be flagged in the app before they take effect.
